Sweet and sour grapes

This frozen snack is perfect for hot summer days. You’ll want to make an extra large batch when grapes are on sale because this recipe is a kid favourite.

Ingredients

  • 250 mL (1 cup) grapes
  • 1 mL (¼ tsp) citric acid or 1 tbsp lemon juice

Directions

  1. Wash grapes and cut in half, lengthwise.
  2. Place grapes in a container with a tight-fitting lid.
  3. Add citric acid, close container and shake well to coat.
  4. Place in the freezer for about an hour or until frozen through.
  5. Serve frozen.

Tips

  • Be sure to cut grapes in half lengthwise, this makes it safer for younger children to eat.
  • Citric acid is the natural acid found in oranges, lemons, and limes. It’s what makes you pucker! Find it in bulk food stores, online or supermarkets.
  • Can’t find citric acid? Use 15 mL (1 tbsp) of lemon juice instead of the citric acid.
  • Older kids can practice their knife skills and slice grapes (with supervision). Little chefs can help by shaking the container.
